Why are wood shutters good? Because they are beautiful: From the last third of the 1800s significant buildings were not constructed without shutters. Our ancestors used shutters with good insight and excellent technological sense. The devices, which occasionally are as beautiful as a piece of art, soon became an indispensable exterior tool and interior decoration of buildings. Because they are good: Besides their aesthetic values their usefulness were significant even in those less energy-saving times. During winter and summer it makes possible to control temperature and light. Nowadays it is proved scientifically by measured data, that a significant amount of the environmentally destructive and money-consuming heating energy can be saved.

It is a proved fact as well, that the nostalgic, breezy shading effect due to the unique 25-75 percent gap-slat ratio of wood shutters, helps to save a significant amount of electric energy used by air conditioning.

We are happy to realize that monument protection authorities ban to mount plastic and aluminium shutters on protected buildings not only in Prague any more, but zealous preservationists prohibit it also in Hungarian towns and cities. Wood, as a natural material bears excellent characteristics. One of the most valuable of these is its exceptional thermal insulating property, which is better than any of the building materials', only the special thermal insulator materials beat wood. We use different kinds of wood, including spruce, Scots pine, larch-wood and besides these we also produce shutters made of oak or tropical exotic plant materials.

We thought it to be necessary to construct a shutter-case system that harmonizes with the exterior construction of wood shutters and wood windows, and to be adequate in every sense to the wood shutters in functioning. So, we converted the conventional shutter-case as well. We had to design a case that is really free of heat-bridges and which can be mounted on any kind of window or door, and is able to take in any kind of shutter. Made of the same material as the frame of the window or door, constructing a module system, it is satisfactory in size and structure for every technical or aesthetic demand
Our shutter-cases are made of outer and upper water-repellent and water-resistant OSB faces, the inner and lower surfaces, according to requests, are produced using the same materials as the door or window has, and having the same surface processing.

For the problem of the wood's surface processing, modern chemical industry gave the solution. Because of the poor quality of paints and primes used previously, in every couple of years continuous service was necessary. Today's modern stains, primers, great UV-resistant lacquers and paints do not need any kind of service or repair for ten-fifteen years.
Construction of shutter-cases makes it possible to build a mobile insect screen as a separate part, inside the arch-like case, and make it invisible from the outside.
In case of our shutters the boreholes made for the braces result in a tenth size decrease in the cross section of slats, compared to the space needed for the lamellae of "Esslingen" systems. This way they are much more resistant against mechanical impacts. We had the idea of completing it with a motor and push-up blocker retailed by SOMFY . With these versions, our company had to face increased safety requirements, which we managed to meet immediately.

Horváth wood shutters installed together with the shutter-case produced by us received a MABISZ (Association of Hungarian Insurance Companies) certification.

Handling of the shutters can be manual by a strap or a drive or electric motor-driven. The zinc coated steel cylinders with ball bearings made manual handling easier, but modern electronics, the more comfortable motorised solution provides several useful opportunities. Such features are remote control, programming, wind, light and temperature automation and the possibility of connecting it to an alarm system.

We have to mention here the unique light controlling and ventilation ability of wood shutters due to their 25-75 percent gap-slat ratio, in contrast with the aluminium safety shutters, which do not even have a perforation providing a minimal amount of ray of light. There have never been safety wood shutters in Hungary before, and as far as we know from our profession, there are no such shutters even in the European market.
